Current news and recent events in our lives.

3/15/10 Chris and I are trying to become adoptive parents. We are working with the county. It has been a very long and frustrating process. We received word two weeks ago that we had been approved. Last Friday we received a letter confirming that we have been approved. We are both very happy. Now we wait for child.

This weekend we worked on the back yard. For a couple weeks we have been talking about planting some vegetables again this year. In the past the dogs have dug in the beds, uprooting plants and seeds. In past years we have used wire fence to keep them out. It works, but it does not look all that good. This year we took out some of the wire fence a replaced it with redwood latice. We used two feet by eight foot panels. We also used pressure treated 2 x 4's. We will probably put up more fence, but we got a nice start on it this weekend. We planted corn, zucchini, yellow squash and cucumber. Chris found some potatoes from some plants that we planted a couple years ago, when she we turning a bed. We intend to replant them in a whiskey barrel. We are also going to plan some mixed lettuce seeds.

In addition to the vegetables, we have some fruit in the yard. There was an apple tree in the back yard when I bought the house. We pruned it a bit this weekend. It's covered in flowers and there are even a couple flowers that have turned into fruit. We planted a blackberry and fig a few years back. Both plants are starting to display buds that are turning into new leavess. A neighbor that lives behind our yard has a white grape. The last couple of years the grape has grown into our yard. Last year we got about 20 bunches of grapes. This year the neighbor cut the vine that had climbed over the fence. The vine appears to have taken root in a bed on our side of the wall. We trimmed it back and tied the branches to a metal stake. We are hoping that the grape continues to grow bare fruit.

We are hoping to get some nice produce this year. There is something really rewarding about picking fruit and vegetables out of the garden and serving them for dinner. It is a bit of work, but the flavors are worth it. Chris makes some very tasty deserts with the fruit. Apple pie, apple crisp, ice cream with fresh blackberries, etc. I addition to the vegetables, Chris planted a couple flowers while we were working in the back yard. She also planted some basil in our herb garden.

3/8/10 I have been neglecting this page for a while. I am renewing my comittment to keep it up to date. It threatened to rain this weekend and actually rained a little bit. That being the case, Chris and I did not do too much. I did a little yard work and worked on the pickup truck. Chris did a little house work. Our pickup was burning some coolant. It recently passed the smog test, so I figure I would try replacing the cylinder head gaskets. I have the heads back on. The truck was leaking some oil, so I have the oil pan off. I have everytthing cleaned up and ready to go back together. I did not see any obvious signs of a coolant leak. I am hoping that it doesn't have a cracked head when I get it all back together. After I was done working on the pickup, I decided to take one of the motorcycles out for a ride. The clouds were breaking a bit, so I jumped on the RC51 and headed to one of the motorcycle stores. From there, I headed to some local canyons. The canyon had trapped some of the clouds, so it was a little cold. I stopped at Cooks Corner to check out the other bikes. Mostly Harleys. There was one really nice Road Glide there. I rode into one of the canyons. I was just taking it easy, riding amoung the oak trees. It started raining about 30 minutes after I got home. Chris made a fantastic pot roast on Sunday.
